2011-2012 Internal Election Results

The UA is pleased to announce the results of our Internal Elections, which took place on April 10th, 2011:

Speaker (speaker@pennua.org): Cynthia Ip, College ‘12
The Speaker chairs UA meetings and facilitates all internal business, including serving as a link between the executive and the body and managing the associate member process.

Treasurer (treasurer@pennua.org): Jake Shuster, College ‘13
The Treasurer is responsible for the UA’s own operational funds, the Student Government Budget that appropriates over $1.9 million for all undergraduate government branches at Penn, as well as the UA’s $20,000 Contingency Fund.

Secretary (secretary@pennua.org): Will Smith, College ‘14
The Secretary is responsible for record-keeping, communicating to the student body on the UA’s progress through the website and the press, as well as other administration necessary for our operation.

Ip, Shuster, and Smith will join President Tyler Ernst (president@pennua.org) and Vice President Faye Cheng (vp@pennua.org) to form the UA Executive Board. Please feel free to contact any of the executive board members at the email addresses listed above with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. We look forward to having a great year!

Grade Alert System is in Effect!

Email is a primary means of communications used by today’s students. It is becoming an ubiquitous media for getting important messages delivered. That’s why the UA, headed by Matt Sternberg and Faye Cheng in coordination with the Student Technology Advisory Board, have successfully lobbied the University to implement a grade email notification system in Penn InTouch in time for fall semester grade postings. This means no more need to anxiously check your grades over winter break!

245 syllabi posted online!!! (as of Wednesday)

The Academic Affairs Committee (in coordination with SCUE) has recently launched a campaign to encourage professors to post their course syllabi online. So far 245 syllabi have been posted for Spring 2011, which has already surpassed the number from last semester!

More syllabi are expected to be uploaded. We’ll keep you updated!

UA Cabinet, Budget Committee, and more Reps!

The UA Executive Board is pleased to announce the appointment of the following Cabinet positions:

Communications Director: Chris Cruz
Academic Affairs Director: Faye Cheng
Civic & Philadelphia Engagement Director: Jake Shuster
Housing, Sustainability & Facilities Director: Amanda Young
Student Life Director: Tyler Ernst
Speaker Pro Tempore: Grant Dubler (confirmed by acclamation)

The UA body also elected the following members:

Budget Committee: Emerson Brooking and Hunter Horsley
T-Change Representative: Andrew Jakubowski
Council of Philadelphia Student Government (CPSG) Representative: Emily Shaeffer

The UA representative to NEC will be appointed within the next 2 weeks.

UA Releases its Annual Report

The UA has released its 2009 Annual Report, a comprehensive overview of its work over the last year in general and last semester in particular. This website will be updated in the next weeks with the complete text of the Report, but check out the consolidated and printable publication here!
