City of Philadelphia Announces Bike Lanes on Spruce and Pine Sts.
Spruce and Pine Sts. in Center City, home to some of the city’s most beautiful colonial and brownstone houses, will soon be housing more bikers. The City of Philadelphia has announced its intention to install buffered bike lanes on both streets, connecting the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers. Presently, there are no designated bike-only lanes in Center City. Eager to change this, the bullish Nutter administration plans to have these lanes ready by Labor Day.
A bicycle-friendly Philadelphia has long been a goal for Penn’s UA. In addition to more designated bike lanes in University City, the UA has advocated bike sharing programs, and increased bicycle safety measures. Several Penn administrators, including those at Facilities and Real Estate Services (FRES), as well as the Department of Public Safety (DPS), have made bicycle initiatives a priority. And the city of Philadelphia, with Mayor Nutter at the helm, has made cycling a top issue.
For all of those interested in biking at Penn—look forward to safer, cleaner, less congested, and more sustainable travel.
